The Hermann viticultural area is widely regarded as
one of the strongest quality wine growing regions in the state of
Missouir, if not the whole midwest. A long time producer of wines, it
has gained some well desired attention over the last few years. is
again showing incredible promise as a world-class viticultural area.
The old world influence on this beautiful countryside area of East
Central Missouri area extends beyond the long, influencial history of
German immigrants to this area. The Hermann Apellation area shares many
of the same climatic and terrain as those of parts of the southern and
eastern Germany winemaking regions.
Among the most popular grapes of this region are
the Norton grapes, the offical grape of the State of Missouri.
The Hermann appellation is located in a bend on
the southern bank of the Missouri River about 75 miles to the west of
St. Louis, thus making it a simple day escursion for mant St. Louisans.
The city of Hermann, founded in the 1830's, is the
county seat of Gasconade County, Missouri near the center of the
Missouri Rhineland on the Missouri River. The population of this quaint
city was just over 2,600 people at the 2000 census. Famous for it's
wineries like Stone Hill Winery, the Hermannhof Winery and the nearby
Adam Puchta Winery
The town also hosts a Maifest during the third
weekend in May and an Oktoberfest the first four weekends in October.
Lastly, in addition to it's reputation for wine, Hermann is also called
